Rogue waves have been around for a long time without anyone knowing. Thanks to technology now, we have evidence that rogue waves exist.
1) The artwork that I painted was probably painted between 1829 and 1832 by Hokusai, a famous engraver and artist.
2) He is proof that rogue waves (tsunamis) have happened for many centuries in japanese history.
3)In world history there are records going back from 1861 of sudden waves appearing out of nowhere far out at sea.
4) Many ships have suddenly disappeared,never to be seen again. It is thought rogue waves are guilty,and proof is becoming more evident .
5) Queen Elizabeth 2nd, in september 1995 saw a wave about 29 metres high. It was like an enormous cliff coming down on the ship. The ship survived by surfing the wave, and because it was such an enormous ship.
6) Rogue waves are different from tsunamis, tsunamis are caused by underwater earthquakes. Some people think that rogue waves are caused by 3 or 4 waves combining into one.
7) Rogue waves can happen in any part of the world, ships have even sunk off the coast of nz because of them, but they happen most frequently off the southeast coast of south africa.
8) Rogue waves are worse in winter months.
9) The only hope for a ship surviving a rogue wave, is if the ship has more time, is to turn and face it and sail right into it at full steam.
10)USA satellites in space have seen freakish ocean waves that rise as tall as a 10 storey apartment blocks. Proof has now been accepted as evidence. During the last 20 years, 200 super tankers and container ships more than 200 metres in length have sunk.Rogue waves are believed to be the major cause.
